Elizabeth Gaskell’s House Wedding, Manchester
Luke & Liz’s small wedding in Manchester
I absolutely loved being back at one of my favourite quirky Manchester wedding venues, Elizabeth Gaskell’s House recently for Luke & Liz’s wedding. Luke & Liz are going to have a mega party next year in Italy, but wanted a small and intimate wedding ceremony beforehand in the UK.
Elizabeth Gaskell’s House is the perfect venue for smaller weddings, (you can read more about my take on the venue here!) It’s a wedding venue full of history and character - my favourite part being the gorgeous study with fitted bookshelves - and has a lovely small garden too for those rare sunny days in Manchester! I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are planning a small wedding in Manchester!
Luke & Liz had a beautiful small ceremony in the drawing room at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House with their closest friends & family. Afterwards myself, Luke & Liz headed into Manchester for a few photos around the city. Including a photo at their favourite spot as students, The Garratt! It was such a lovely relaxed day - thank you so much for having me Luke & Liz!
I’ve so enjoyed photographing these smaller weddings lately. I know a few couples may be debating having a smaller wedding ceremony soon and planning a larger party later once Covid restrictions are relaxed. If you are on the fence, I would definitely recommend considering it! You can still have a beautiful day with your family there to witness your ceremony, plus you can still get some beautiful photographs! I offer bespoke pricing by the hour for smaller wedding ceremonies & events. Get in touch here to discuss your wedding plans with me.

A few words from Liz & Luke:
”Describe the proposal!: New Year's Eve 2013/14 the plan was to stay in, have a curry and watch some films. Liz asked Luke's dad Lee to get him out of the flat for a few hours, during which time Liz covered every surface in the living room in candles.
When Luke came home the entire flat was lit by flickering candlelight, he still had no idea because after 9 years together we had never really gone for big romantic gestures. He just thought I'd done it for New Year's Eve.
We were sat together having some bubbles when Liz began to ask him and by the time he cottoned on to what was happening he quickly dropped onto both knees and ask Liz to marry him as well. So all things considered it was a bit of a bodge job, but that's us all over.
What is special about your venue?: We both love books and are proud of the area we grew up, we also wanted somewhere that was relatively low key, and Elizabeth Gaskell's House ticked all the boxes!”

A lovely review from Luke & Liz, thanks so much!:
”We are so happy we chose Maddie to photograph our wedding. She was friendly, patient and professional throughout the day. She was happy to guide us from the moment we initially made contact, constantly keeping open a dialogue before, during and after our wedding day - this was during the Covid outbreak, thus making us feel at ease during an anxious time. We cant stop looking at the photos and are so happy with the end result.”
