Holmes Mill Wedding

Katie & Martin’s small winter wedding in Clitheroe

My last wedding of 2020 was Katie & Martin’s small but wonderful day at Holmes Mill, Clitheroe.
In Katie’s words: “After what feels like a multitude of dates, we're finally here and just so excited to be married, be husband and wife. It might be a tier 3 wedding and a part in person, part virtual day, but we think it will be perfect” - and it was!

Katie & Martin’s wedding was full of personal touches which I always love, my favourite being Katie’s beautiful dress which was handmade by @molliesmythflowers and named after Katie’s late Mum.

Of course, the ‘best dog’ Rupert was there and did a fantastic job modelling for me again!

It was a lovely afternoon full that felt super relaxed and cosy. I’m so, so happy that Katie & Martin finally got to have their wedding day and had a brilliant time. ❤️️

A few words about their wedding from Katie & Martin:

How did you two meet?: On Plenty of Fish - new age dating! We were both about to give up on online dating when we found each other. Martin's picture was when he had his massive beard and I thought, that looks intriguing so we chatted. First date was at Hollywood Bowl in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Describe the proposal!: In the middle of the lake district in front of a log fire in a cabin on 4th December 2018. It was the first week of leave we'd had off in about six months and were in need of a much earned break. We'd booked a lodge for Martin's birthday (7th December) and were taking our new pup, Rupert, away for a week of walks, chill and hot tub. We'd had a perfect day of nothing particularly remarkable but just being together, a hot chocolate in a cafe, cooking together and then in the hot tub under the stars. We were enjoying a prosecco in front of the fire when Martin said to me, I bought you a present. I was like, but it's your birthday?! I opened up a brown parcel tied with string to find the most beautiful copy of the beauty and the beast and other fairy tales. Martin and I watched Beauty and Beast early on in our relationship and he secretly loved it, we always said he was like the beast with his massive beard and I was like Belle because my nose was always in books. He'd written inside the front cover how most fairy tales start and end in one book, but ours starts with this one. I turned the pages over and he stuck the pages together and cut out a box shape with my ring inside. The day we got engaged was my parents wedding anniversary which was extra special as my mum is sadly no longer with us. Obviously I said yes! In the middle of this our new puppy had also done a poop in the middle of the proposal and Martin had knocked over a bottle of prosecco from nerves and Rupert was trying to lick it all up. It was perfect.

What is special about your venue?: We love old things that have been given a new lease of life. That's our wedding venue, Holmes Mill. An old mill that has been turned into a fabulous brewery, hotel, deli etc etc. We love going for drives up the Valley to Clitheroe and enjoying a good meal in the Beer Hall there. The room is beautiful and we fell in love with it when we were visiting venues which was why we knew it was the one for us.

Any details of note about your big day?: It's a COVID wedding?! Think that's the biggest of note right now. After what feels like a multitude of dates, we're finally here and just so excited to be married, be husband and wife. It might be a tier 3 wedding and a part in person, part virtual day, but we think it will be perfect. We have hand made what we can, little sanitiser bags for everyone and face masks. We are going to display our table names at the venue as decoration and they have been made by me featuring our engagement photos (they are a nod to how we met - puns on the POF dating site). .
Our theme is rustic Christmassy vintage (is that a theme?!) The engagement book will feature as our wedding ring holder and our now 2 year old dog Rupert will be best dog! I will be arriving by wedding car with my dad and martin and I will come back home in it (via McDonalds drive through). I've got a personalised leather jacket to wear after the ceremony and there are some little mementos to my Mum throughout the day (candle, picture on my flowers. her garter and my dress is named after her).
We hand made our favours of candles and baubles for the guests too. There will be speeches after the ceremony and both myself and my maid of honour will be doing one as well.

Confetti is hand dried flowers from flowers Martin has bought me/ we have bought for the house.”
