Hayley & Matt's winter wedding in manchester city centre
Hayley and Matt got married in November at the awesome Great John Street Hotel, which is a quirky hotel in Manchester city centre. They had their ceremony at the same venue as the reception, which was great because having everything in one venue meant more time for mingling! They chose Great John Street because it reminded them of New York city which they fell in love with. I love shooting weddings at Great John Street Hotel because the decor is so unusual and the photo ops are endless! The venue is at the heart of Manchester city centre as well, which meant Hayley & Matt had the opportunity for photographs around the city.
Being winter-time, Hayley & Matt had a Christmas theme to their wedding. The reception was upstairs on the roof terrace of the hotel, and they had a brass band in the afternoon, and a Christmas desserts table in the evening.
The most memorable part of the day was taking photographs at the Manchester Christmas markets. We all hopped in a black cab and dash out at Manchester Town Hall square for some festive photographs!
Hayley and Matt’s wedding had such a fun atmosphere and had such a chilled vibe. Thanks for having me!

Describe the proposal!: Matts totally surprised me! It was on my 30th birthday party which he had organised for me it was at the party thank god! He asked me at home very romantically before the party then when we got to the party we told everyone it was like a double celebration!
What is special about your venue?: We LOVED our venue! The feel of Great John Street reminded us of New York which is our favourite city so we decided to have a city wedding but closer to home!
Any details of note about your big day?: The theme of our wedding was Xmas markets/ city wedding very ‘sex in the city’ style at Christmas. We had the Xmas tree up in the venue and Xmas lanterns around the venue with lots of tea lights creating that evening black tie city wedding feel. Topped off with the brass band!

Great John Street Hotel in Manchester is one of my favourite city centre venues to work at. Great John St is perfect if you are looking for a relaxed, medium sized wedding venue right in the city centre. The hotel has a modern feel and beautiful boutique style bedrooms. The ceremony & reception room leads straight on to the rooftop terrace which has beautiful views of the city.
There are plenty of photo-opportunities nearby. Both Deansgate & Castlefield are in walking distance which have lots of quirky backdrops for photos.
I’ve photographed at Great John Street Hotel in both the summer & winter months and it’s a great venue at all times of year. The rooftop has heaters for the winter and feels super cosy, whereas in the summer the rooftop feels like your own private posh beer garden!
